Georgia on My Mind

Introducing Georgia: Our Van's New Name and the Journey Ahead

After much contemplation, research, and heartfelt discussions, we are excited to announce the name we’ve chosen for our van: Georgia. At first glance, this name might seem simple, but it holds a deep significance for us. Georgia is named after my mom, and I’d like to share the story behind this choice.

Georgia was my mom’s middle name. Born in 1938 in San Diego, California, she lived a life full of adventure until her passing in 2008 in Klamath Falls, Oregon. Mom was an incredible person—generous, kind, and selfless. But above all, she was a true gypsy at heart. She had an insatiable desire to travel, explore, and experience the world around her.

The day after I graduated high school, my mom hit the road. Her first destination was her childhood home in San Diego, and from there, she embarked on a journey that would take her across the country. She spent time visiting friends and family, making stops in Florida, the Oregon Coast, and countless other cherished locations along the way.

Mom also loved to travel by her favorite means of transportation: Amtrak. For years, she roamed the country, but eventually returned home to embrace what she considered the most treasured time of her life—being a grandmother.

Inspired by her adventurous spirit, we aim to convert our van into a camper and follow in her footsteps. Our goal is to traverse the country, taking in all the wonders between the oceans. We plan to extend Mom’s legacy by exploring North America, reaching destinations like the Arctic Ocean in Canada, the tip of Baja Mexico, and the breathtaking wilds of Alaska.

Our journey will eventually take us from Key West, Florida, all the way to Homer, Alaska. We want to see it all, and with this grand adventure on the horizon, we believe there could only be one name for our van.

So, with open hearts and a spirit of adventure, we welcome Georgia to the family!
