The Long Road to Repair, Vanlife Update

Preview

Hey everyone! I wanted to give you all a quick update on my van situation.

I first want to say thank you all for following our journey and for your support during this time!

As many of you know, my van broke down 119 days ago on Christmas due to a blown engine, which will cost $16k to repair. Thankfully, an extended warranty is covering the balance.

The van has been at the mechanic since early January, and I spoke with them today for an update – it’s not looking good.

Unfortunately, they informed me that they still need another month to get a replacement top end (head) from Italy. They said it's on the way, but they have been saying that for a while now. Since 2020, I know that some auto parts are hard to come by, so I’ve been patient.

I want to make clear that we have not been waiting this entire time for the parts. The first week we were waiting on towing, diagnosis, and the warranty to pay out the claim. Then there was another 10 days (or so) with some banking issues between the shop and the direct deposit. This delayed the repair around 60 days before they could even chase parts.

The new estimated timeline for repairs is now early May.

I am eager to get the van back and resume traveling and building up the content on here on OpenRoadNomad.com for you to enjoy.

On a more personal note, during this same time, I have undergone a major shakeup in my income situation. I am currently seeking a remote job or contracted work with my consulting business Rogue Branding. Our Open Road Nomad YouTube channel is new and still a long way from earning any cash flow. Ruby and I are currently in our motorhome in Oregon’s beautiful Rogue Valley. We arrived at the peak of the pear blossoms and the sunsets have been amazing. However, if you have not heard, I am also trying to sell the motorhome. Partially cause I don’t need it anymore and partially cause we could use the cash.

Hopefully things will come together soon - We can’t wait to get back on the road and share our adventures with you.
